CSN UAV Flight Approval Permit Request

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is committed to providing a safe environment for both the campus and the outside community. CSN acknowledges that the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) on its property can pose privacy and safety risks, interfere with the institution's educational mission, and disrupt the use and enjoyment of the airspace above the property.

As such, the use of UAVs without proper authorization is prohibited on all CSN campuses, both outdoors and indoors. CSN will authorize UAV launch and landing on its property only under limited circumstances, except as required by law or through the authorization process outlined in this policy. All approved UAV use on CSN property must comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.

Restrictions for UAV’s

  • Flight must be restricted to the flight plan location as indicated in the request.
  • At no point will the UAV/drone be flown over individuals.
  • All flights must have spotters.
  • The aircraft must always be in line of sight of the operator and spotter.
  • The pilot of any UAV will be required to make the proper notification to the FAA before each launch.
  • The aircraft will be immediately taken under manual control if any deviation from the flight plan is observed while the aircraft is GPS controlled.
  • Please carry a copy of the approval of this request

To request authorization for UAV use on CSN campuses, please provide the following information. In the "Permit Date & Time" section, specify the intended flight date(s) for "Start Date" and "End Date," and the intended flight times for "Start Time" and "End Time." Use the "Add Supporting Documents" section below to upload a map of the proposed flight boundaries, as well as any additional approvals.

Requestors are asked to allow at least seven (7) working days for the review and approval process before the flight date. The link below offers information about an app that provides interactive maps showing where pilots can and cannot fly. The app also offers situational awareness for recreational flyers and other drone users: https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/b4ufly
